2048 looks simple — swipe, merge, reach 2048. But most players hit a wall around 512. These 7 quick tips will double your survival time.
1. Pick a Corner and Stay There
Your highest tile belongs in a corner — bottom-left works for most people. Never swipe away from that corner. If your 1024 is in the bottom-left and you swipe up, it moves and your whole grid falls apart.
2. The Snake Pattern
Build your tiles in a snake shape: highest in the corner, then descending along the bottom row, up the right side, back along the second row. This way merges always flow toward your big tile.
3. Only Use 3 Directions
If your corner is bottom-left, only swipe left, down, and right. Never swipe up. The fourth direction is your emergency brake — using it breaks your pattern.
4. Keep the Bottom Row Full
Your bottom row is your foundation. If it has an empty spot, new tiles spawn there and break your chain. Swipe left/right to fill gaps before moving up.
5. Plan Two Moves Ahead
Don't just merge what's in front of you. Ask: after this merge, where does the new tile spawn? Will it block my snake? Good 2048 players think 2-3 moves ahead.
6. Small Tiles Are Fuel
Those 2s and 4s scattered around aren't clutter — they're your next merge chain. Keep them grouped in pairs so when you need a 64, you have a 32+16+8+4+2 ready.
7. When Stuck, Take the Risk
If the board is full and no merges are visible, swipe the direction that creates the most options — even if it moves your big tile. A 20% chance to recover beats a guaranteed game over.
